Should even soldier's who commit such heinous act be held accountable if they are trained and "brainwashed" into becomng killing machines without emotion? In today's society, do we still see any examples of dehumanization? Is the manner of training conducted at basic directly responsible for Private Pyle's death or was it his incompetency? Transcript: Main Cause: US suspected Iraq of selling nuclear weapons to terrorist organizations. I agree with the director's view because it shows the soldiers perspective of war. Many soldiers don't come home the same way (psychologically), and sometimes cannot function affectivley in life back home. Since they have experienced so many violent encounters, they feel that nothing in their normal day to day life can never top what they experienced in war. The Plot Camo during 2004 Director's Bias True Mistakes Kathryn Bieglow, the director, shows the war in the perspective of the soldiers, which is mostly a negative view of war. The director focuses on how war negatively impacts them. For example, The Hurt Locker opens with "The rush of battle is a potent and often lethal addiction, for war is a drug." The director also focuses on the horrors of war. For example, there is a scene where they must remove a IED from a dead kid's stomach. Major events in The War in Iraq My view on the Director's bias EOD is a real unit. Somewhat realistic portrayal of the Iraq War. Artistic Value Very good Suspenseful Shows the stresses of the military. Won Best Picture in 2009. The story focuses on a 3-man squad from the US Army's Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), in 2004, whose deployment in Iraq is almost over. EOD's mission is to defuse IEDs. Jeremy Renner plays as Sgt. William James, who is a replacement squad leader, who happens to be a adrenaline addict. His squad thinks that his poor choices will get them killed, and at one point of the movie they actually consider killing him. At the end of the movie, James finds civilian life to be very boring, and feels nothing can top what he experienced in Iraq. In response, he starts another tour of duty serving with another EOD unit as they are starting their 365-day rotation. March 19, 2003: Combat begins. April 9, 2003: Baghdad falls as well as Saddam's regime. Dec. 13, 2003: Saddam Huessin is captured in Tikrit, Iraq. Jan. 25, 2004: Inspectors declare they found no WMDs in Iraq. Nov. 7, 2004: The Battle of Fallujah. Deadliest American battle since the Black Hawk Down incident. American Victory. Dec. 30, 2005: Saddam Hussein is executed. Jan. 10, 2007: Bush announces plan for troop surge. Aug. 13, 2010: Obama declares an end to all combat operations in Iraq. Dec. 15, 2011: War in Iraq officially ends. The uniforms they wear are ACU, but ACU was not put into the Army till 2005. (Movie takes place in 2004.) One of the character's mentions Youtube, but Youtube was made in 2005.
